School News Notifier

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is SNN?
School News Notifier (SNN) is an opt-in  news service where parents, staff and community members can sign up to receive e-mail notices and/or text messages on their cell phones. It is recommended that you sign up for both e-mail and text messages since the text notices will only be issued for weather-related school closings, delays and other time-sensitive issues. The e-mail alerts are for school programs and district news. Subscribers can choose to receive any or all of the notices, and they can unsubscribe at any time. Your e-mail address will be kept confidential.

Why are text messages limited to school closing alerts?
The SNN text messaging service is designed to improve student safety by providing parents and other subscribers with time-sensitive notices about school closings and delays. Since most cellular carriers and many cell phone models limit the size of text messages, the notices are no longer than 100 characters in length. Most of the messages about school events and programs contain detailed information that would not fit the size constraints of the text messages.

Can I sign up for SNN if I don't want to receive text messages or don't have a cell phone?
Yes. You can sign up for the e-mail notifications, which are issued for weather-related school closings and delays as well as district and school news.

How often will I receive notifications?
The number of notices you receive will depend on your subscription profile. The amount of e-mail notifications vary from building to building. Text notices are issued only in the event of a school closing or delay.

Can my group (team, class, etc.) send out a news notice?
The system can be very useful for sending out reminders for PTSO meetings or information on cancelled activities. If you are interested in sending out a news notice to those who have signed up to receive districtwide news, please contact Tara Mitchell at

Why does my e-mail program think your notifications are junk mail?
Some e-mail programs or providers are very aggressive about identifying spam or junk mail. Our SNN return e-mail is a valid e-mail address called However, it is possible that your e-mail program might put messages from this address into your spam folder. To help eliminate this possibility, please add to your e-mail "whitelist" or list of trusted senders.

Am I going to start getting junk mail messages on my cell phone?
